Welcome to the STaR programme registration page. Here, you’ll find all the essential information and steps to easily register and begin your journey toward teaching excellence.
Registration
All HKU undergraduates who have completed 25 hours of teaching or have prior teaching hours accumulated are eligible to apply for the STaR programme.
Registration takes place twice a year – in September and January.
After registration, students are:
Required to attend THREE mandatory workshops.
Assigned a mentor to support them in preparing their Teaching Portfolios
Teaching Portfolio
During the programme, students should gather materials for their teaching portfolios consisting of 1,500 words with guidance and support from their mentors throughout the process.
The list of the elements students should include:
- Teaching Observation conducted by the student’s mentor
- A reflection on the teaching observation (200 words)
- A reflection on student feedback (300 words)
- A supporting statement normally provided by the mentor
- List of References
AND, TWO of the three options below (all must be linked to appropriate literature): - An outline of TWO sessions with a rationale (500 words)
- A reflection on TWO different teaching approaches (500 words)
- Reflections on TWO examples of how you have supported a student or a group of students in achieving their learning goal(s) (500 words)

Submission
Students will have a maximum of 18 months from their registration date to prepare and submit their Teaching Portfolios.
Submission takes place twice a year – in February and June.
*Final year students will need to submit their documents on or before 20th May.

The registration will be open on Jan 2 2026 (Fri).
