CIC StaR Programme
Background
The Professional Standards Framework (PSF) was developed by the Higher Education sector in the United Kingdom in 2011. It was promoted by the Higher Education Academy (HEA, now Advance HE) as a way of recognizing individuals’ contribution to learning and teaching. The framework allows eligible individuals engaged in teaching and learning to apply for four categories of Fellowship – Associate Fellowship (D1), Fellowship (D2), Senior Fellowship (D3) and Principal Fellowship (D4).
Since January 2020, HKU has run its own local scheme, HKU Advance HE Fellowship Scheme accredited by Advance HE in the UK. This means that instead of applying directly to Advance HE, staff and postgraduate students at HKU can apply via the local scheme.
The STaR Programme is the first of its kind in Asia, created to celebrate and recognize undergraduate students’ dedication to gaining teaching experience within higher education. Through this programme, HKU undergraduates who successfully meet the requirements will be awarded the prestigious Associate Fellowship (AFHEA), accredited by Advance HE in the UK. By participating, students have a unique opportunity to receive official recognition for their significant teaching contributions in Communication-intensive Courses, demonstrating their commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Jointly offered by the Communication-intensive Courses team and the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TALIC), the programme is open to students who have completed at least 25 hours of teaching.
- Students who have started accumulating peer teaching hours but have not yet reached 25 hours are also eligible to register, provided they complete the remaining hours within the programme.
- Students will have a maximum of 18 months to complete all requirements and earn the fellowship before they graduate.
