Generative AI for Creative Writing

posted in: Research | 0

The research explored the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools to redefine the boundaries of creative expression and develop students’ literacies. Inspired by Jacques Rancière’s vision of universal creativity, this research project show how students are rapidly becoming fluent with the use of AI, using these innovative tools to twist, bend, and reimagine what it means to be an author.

By empowering students to lead their learning with AI, the study found that they are freed to think more creatively and independently, sidestepping the traditional notion of the lone writer in favor of a collaborative, AI-enhanced approach to storytelling. This shift towards a more equal classroom dynamic allows students to freely share their ideas, fostering the development of crucial written, visual, and digital literacies. The research reveals that working hand-in-hand with AI can deepen our understanding of creativity in the digital age, suggesting that these cutting-edge tools hold the key to unlocking innovative approaches that empower students and increase engagement in the classroom. As students harness the power of AI to craft dynamic, multimedia narratives, they are simultaneously honing critical and creative thinking skills that will serve them well in an increasingly tech-driven world.
